First of all, the world-renowned Economist Jeffrey Sachs:
“This is America’s Brexit, with a revolt against the elite establishment and large-scale immigration. It’s almost the same political phenomenon: rural, working class, high-school rather than college educated, and generally people feeling left behind.
He is a populist without long-term plans or detailed policy ideas. He is probably not a militarist (indeed probably less than HRC), and might even work well with Russia to end the Syrian War. One danger is that he would stoke a trade war. We should definitely avoid that!
His budget plans are not realistic as stated, as they involve massive tax cuts that would open up huge budget deficits. There will have to be significant adjustments.
His infrastructure ideas are sound to rebuild Americas roads, power, cities. The key is to build them sustainably (“green”), which has not been his focus but will need to become his focus.
In other words, we shall see.”
Sachs is a Renowned Development Economist and the Director of Earth Institute Columbia University. In 2004, and again in 2005, Time named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world. He is a a special advisor to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. His monthly newspaper columns are read in more than 80 countries.
