David Price, OBE, is an expert in organisational learning for a complex future, Senior Associate at the Innovation Unit, and co-founder of We Do Things Differently, a culture change practice. He has spoken all over the world and combines warmth, wit and, on occasion, live music performance, to make serious issues accessible to any audience.

David is the best-selling author of, ‘How We'll Work, Live and Learn In The Future.’ Sir Ken Robinson commented on David's book that 'from every perspective, OPEN will open your mind to some of the real implications of digital technologies for how we live and learn in the 21st century.’

David writes, talks, trains and advises around the world on some of the biggest challenges facing business, education and society. He focuses on solving the problems of employee, student and civic disengagement and maximising the potential to be creative, innovative and fulfilled citizens as well as understanding the global shift towards open organisations and systems of learning. He opens minds through talks and masterclasses. He is an experienced facilitator, having led creative workshops with CEOs, Public Sector Leaders, Educators and Social Enterprises.

For the past 10 years, David has led numerous international education projects, culminating in the writing of OPEN. His conclusion is that every business, every school, and every public institution needs to learn from the ways in which we engage with knowledge socially, because therein lies the answer to how to re-engage employees and students, and remain competitive, and relevant in a fast-moving world. His services to education led him to be awarded the OBE by Her Majesty The Queen in 2009.

FOR A CORPORATE AUDIENCE:

Going ‘Open’ – practical strategies which build upon the themes of David’s best-selling book ‘OPEN: How We’ll Work, Live and Learn In The Future’.

Knowledge is now found everywhere and it’s shared socially, instantly. By contrast, the workplace is locked-down. While your employees are working in silos, when they’re not in work, they’re collaborating with people around the world. And it’s pointless guarding your intellectual property - you can’t keep secrets now, anyway. Your only job as a leader is to build a culture that promotes autonomy, learning and collaboration - everything else will take care of itself. So, why is it so hard to do?

How To Make Innovation Part Of Your Everyday Culture

Everyone gets the need for innovation. But in too many organisations, innovation is either tucked away in a silo, externally bought in, or is an ad-hoc event. The successful organisations have it in their DNA. How can you make innovation an everyday event? The answer lies in the culture you create, and this talk shares the key building blocks.

The Engaging Organisation

Being engaged in your work should be a human right, yet almost 1 in 10 employees describe themselves as disengaged. Disengagement costs the US economy $500m a year, so engagement really matters, That’s why organisations try to buy their employees loyalty with perks and financial rewards. Neither work. Organisations themselves need to become engaging environments in order to hold on to their talent. And it’s cheaper than you think.

The Workplace Of The Future

Automation, Smart Robots and Artificial Intelligence are about to fundamentally change the way we work. How ready are we? Why do we still go to a place called ‘work’ and what’s going to replace ‘the job’? Why do we still have 19th-century models of learning at work? Highly innovative companies constantly strive to give purpose and meaning to daily tasks, while too many organisations are sleep-walking to extinction. This talk will help you future-proof your talent management, retention and loyalty.

Unleash Your Employees Creativity!

Disengagement in the workplace is an epidemic which limits our potential, kills creativity and limits productivity. Learn how to unleash your employees' creativity through practical, realisable, strategies, with inspiration from Thomas Edison, W.E. Deming, Homer Simpson and Buzz Lightyear.

In addition to the above, David is always willing to craft a talk - within given parameters - to specific client needs.

FOR AN EDUCATION AUDIENCE:

Education For The Future

Schools and colleges that judge their success by their exam results are not preparing their students for the future. Employers are increasingly not interested in what applicants know, but rather in what they can do with what they know. The radical changes in how we learn socially, and in how we work, are not being reflected in our learning environments. This talk sets out a vision for future-focussed education.

Going Open

The explosion in social learning and the future jobs needs, demand that schools and colleges have to stop looking inward and look outwards to ensure that formal learning matches the immediacy and engagement of informal learning. David’s best-selling book “OPEN: How We’ll Work, Live and Learn In The Future” has triggered an international debate around the challenges facing educators. In this talk, he looks at what we can practically do to open up learning.

The Shape We’re In

In this talk, David shares how great schools and colleges around the world have radically redesigned their buildings, structure and culture to enable mid-21st-century learning. Inspiring learning environments have redefined their physical, technological and philosophical purpose in order to stay relevant to their students' lives and their wants and needs in an increasingly unpredictable future. The global learning commons is here - don’t get left behind.

Innovation in Learning Leadership

How to learn from the most innovative organisations in the world, and unleash the potential of your educators. David shares the secrets of the great innovators of the past and present: Edison, Musk, Deming, Dewey, and others. You will see how the leading companies and colleges have gone SOFT, and you’ll come away with realisable strategies for leading through turbulence.

In addition to the above, David is always willing to craft a talk - within given parameters - to specific client needs.
